Rhode Island Sierra Club Releases National Faith Appreciation ReportFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, July 10, 2008 Faith in Action highlights environmental initiatives from 50+ faith-based groups [Providence, RI] At a press conference today, the Rhode Island Sierra Club, along with the Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light, released the Faith in Action: Communities of Faith Bring Hope for the Planet report at Saint Theresas Catholic Church. The report highlights one exceptional faith-based environmental initiative from each of the fifty states, and illustrates the growing momentum of the creation care movement.Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light are featured in the report for their work in "greening" congregations in Rhode Island. Here in Rhode Island over 60 congregations have participated with us in some capacity since our steering committee first came together a year and a half ago, said Rev. Harry Rix, Board Chairperson for Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light. We are excited that the Sierra Club recognizes our work to 'green' congregations in Rhode Island. We invite members of any congregation to contact us for informative video presentations, energy audits, and major discount on low-cost compact fluorescent light bulbs. Low-income families qualify for installation of CFL bulbs throughout their homes at no charge!" Faith in Action is a project of the Sierra Club's Environmental Partnerships Program, which works actively with faith groups around the United States to broaden support for environmental protection. This report demonstrates that the call to care for the earth comes no matter what ones faith background is, said Chris Wilhite, Rhode Island Sierra Clubs Chapter Director. We are inspired by Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Lights leadership in working to protect the planet, and this report is our way of saying thank you to the many people of faith working on creation care initiatives across the country.
