Home > Rhode Island Chapter Conservation Goals > Green Jobs in Rhode Island Green Jobs in Rhode IslandThe Sierra Club is working on a national scale with the Blue Green Alliance to foster partnerships with organized labor and labor centers around getting the new energy economy moving at the right speed. With the amount of renewable energy that is yet untapped, we could put millions of Americans to work building a clean energy economy based on renewable energy, efficient buildings, and transportation choices. In Rhode Island, the Club is working with the Rhode Island Green Jobs Alliance to make Rhode Island the center of New England's clean energy economy. Thousands of jobs are waiting to be filled once we move forward with renewable energy of scale. In addition, renewing our public transportation system will require not only new jobs laying tracks, operating trains and buses, and maintaining the system, but will also attract more jobs in the local economy with competitive transportation choices. By significantly reducing energy imports with efficient transportation choices and buildings and locally generated renewable power, more of Rhode Island's hard-earned dollars stay here in our local economy. Let's re-energize Rhode Island's working economy. We can do it! |
